Reading Assignment #1

  1. What do Goto and Cotler think are some important things to identify when assessing audience capabilities? Are there examples you would add given changes in the industry since the book was published in 2005? Goto and Cotler think that screen size, screen resolution, internet speed and plug-in software are most important to identify audience capabilities. I believe this is still true especially with the rise of smartphones. If a function doesn't work where they view the site, they may be discouraged and leave.
  2. What is scope creep? When a project turns into a nightmare because the client doesn't do his end so you end up doing even more work because he decides to add or delete parts of the project.
  3. What software application do the authors recommend using for project management? Why do they recommend using a different application to deliver project management information to a client? Microsoft Project because it can change the entire timeline if one thing is late and you can handle multiple timelines.
  4. There's a proofreading error in the sidebar titled "Project Management Applications"—what is it? (Google may help you here.) "Gant chart" should be "Gantt chart.
  5. According to the authors, can usability testing be conducted using an online survey? Why or why not? According to the authors, usability testing cannot be done through online survey's because it has a to be one-on-one so a user can be watched by a moderator. An online survey simply gives feedback on which pages people click on the most, not usabilty.
